Katryn Bennett

Nursery Proprietor and Manager – NVQ Level 4

Katryn has been running Acorn Nursery since 1999 where it was first set up in Pitney Village Hall. After leaving Westland Helicopters in 1997 to retrain as a nursery nurse she went on to become sole proprietor of Acorn Nursery. She has been busy running the nursery ever since, but has also found time to get married, have three children and moved both herself and the nursery to Somerton. Katryn loves living in the small community of Somerton and surrounding villages and particularly enjoys helping at different events within the community. She is committed to her work and is particularly passionate about children having fun, eating healthily and knows that every day at work is a different one but worth every minute!

Naomi Smith

Joint Supervisor of Little Acorns – NVQ level 3

Naomi has been working at Acorns Nursery since December 2006. Naomi is married and is also a mother of one child. Naomi enjoys quality time with her son and her husband. Naomi brings lots of fun and laughter to the nursery and the children love her. She is committed to her work and works incredibly hard as room supervisor. She expertly organises her room in a very calm and orderly manner. She is a very respected member of the team for her hard work, dedication and passion for working with children.

Jenna Smith

Joint Supervisor of Little Acorns – NVQ level 3

Jenna joined our team in April 2009. Since starting at Acorn Nursery Jen has very successfully completed her NVQ level 3 and is now joint supervisor with Naomi. Jen has become a very popular member of the team with the staff, parents and children. Prior to working at the nursery Jen trained as a beauty therapist and continues to incorporate this in her working life. With this experience, Jen is excellent at building up relationships with parents and works to a very high professional standard. Jen has become our organiser of social events for the nursery and for staff! She excels at making them fun and memorable. Jen lives in Somerton with her partner and enjoys spending time with her family and friends in her free time.

Anne Clinker

Early Years Practitioner – Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB)

Anne has worked at Acorn Nursery since 1999. She is a very dedicated member of staff who has been strength to the nursery since it started. Anne has managed the nursery and achieved and initiated many on going areas within the nursery. Anne lives with her partner Luke and her two daughters in a local village and enjoys village life and local events. Anne loves being a mother and has a very strong network of friends and their children. She is enthusiastic and fun loving and has built up many relationships working with families and children in the community.

Sarah Billing

Big Acorns Supervisor – BTEC National Diploma

Sarah has been at Acorn Nursery since January 2006. Sarah is a very hardworking and willing member of the team. Sarah is very consistent and a loyal person. She is very good at organising and making the best of everything. Sarah has two lovely girls and lives in Somerton. Sarah has a lot of experience with working with children and has a very calming influence on them.

Lauren Edmunds

Baby Room Supervisor – Level 3 in Childcare

Lauren has worked at Acorn Nursery since July 2010. Lauren is the Baby Room Supervisor and does an excellent job of caring for the babies and new parents. Lauren is very well suited to working with the babies. She is fun, kind and very caring. She provides stimulating activities for the babies and is very open to new ideas. Lauren lives in a village close to Somerton with her husband Rob and their two daughters. They both share a love for the outdoors and animals. Lauren has a passion for Textiles and dressmaking and is able to do this in her spare time.

Amy Morris

Early Years Practitioner – Level 3 in Childcare

Amy has worked at Acorn Nursery since October 2010. Amy works in the Little Acorns room alongside Lauren. She is a keyworker and has established very strong relationships with her children and their parents. Amy is very hard working and has a very kind and caring nature.

Hayley Snook

Early Years Practitioner – CACHE Level 3 Diploma

Hayley has worked at Acorn Nursery since 2006. She works in the Little Acorns room part time and is a very enthusiastic member of our team who loves working with children. Hayley is a mother to two children. She is a credit to the nursery as she is dedicated and focused. Hayley was involved with a project to try and improve communication within the nursery (ECAT) She successfully completed this and the nursery has benefited from her hard work. Hayley lives locally with her partner.

Lisa Whitely

Early Years Practitioner – Practical and Theoretical Training in the Care of young Children

Lisa has worked at Acorn Nursery since 2013. She works in the Little Acorns Room part-time. Lisa is a wonderful asset to the nursery. She has contributed so much to the nursery since she started including her knowledge of planting and growing with the children throughout the different seasons. Lisa also works at Somerton pre-school part-time. She lives locally with her husband and children and enjoys living in the small community of Somerton.

Stephen Nicholls

Early Years Practitioner – Level 3 in Childcare

Stephen has worked at the nursery since September 2014. Stephen trained at Acorn Nursery and now works part-time after completing his Level 3. The children respond to Stephen and his quiet nature very well. He contributes to the children’s learning and care and is an enthusiastic member of the team. Stephen lives in a local village with his family close to Somerton.

Lily Walrond

Cook – Level 2 in Food Safety for Catering

Lily has worked at Acorn Nursery since 2012 . Lily works every day until 1pm. She prepares all the children’s snacks, sumptuous meals for the children and keeps her kitchen to a very high working standard. Lily is passionate about food and lives on the organic farm where we source most of our produce. Lily creates a new menu at the start of each season when the fruit and vegetables change.   Lily lives locally with her family.

Megan Dunster

Early Years Practitioner – EDEXCEL Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF)

Megan has worked at Acorn Nursery since 2014. Megan trained at Acorn Nursery and now works full time at the nursery. Megan has become a very valuable member of the Acorns team. She works in the Little Acorns room and is very organised and aware of the needs of her keyworker children. Megan has flourished since working full time at the nursery and she makes the children’s day exciting and fun. Megan lives in Somerton with her family.

Emily Corbin


Emily joined Acorns in July 2018. Emily moved from the Midlands with her fiancé to Somerset. Emily moved from a similar nursery where she worked in the baby room and helped with the day-to-day running of the nursery. We are looking forward to getting to know her more.
